Shit Happens...

I know I haven't posted anything on here in a really long time, but I've got a good reason for it. First of all, that sushi roll toilet paper cover is no more. My car was broken into and they made off with my stereo and my backpack (luckily they didn't make off with my 50 pound cement sculpture in the back seat, and it also prevented them from stealing my brand new car battery (yes, my battery is under the back seat)). And, contained within my backpack was all of my class notes, a calculator, some inexpensive jewelry, my checkbook, and my recent crochet project. Funny thing is, someone found my notes, checkbook, and Nintendo wristband down the street and were able to send them to my father (thank goodness for them), but not my crochet. Maybe the crooks kept it. Who knows.
Anywho, I've been trying to get things back together since then, because not having my notes for so long kind of screwed up my classes. And on top of that I had to close my old bank account because of the checkbook being stolen, which has been a pain in the butt. I haven't had any time to crochet between going back to school, being able to hang out with my friends again, and planning for the holidays. But I hope over break I'll start on some Christmas presents for my grandma and sister. But I do have some good news: my Halloween party was a succcess. Here are some pictures:

The whole spread really made the party. I had tons of creepy food and drinks. You can visit my halloween website to see more pictures and learn how to make all of the ghoulish goodies.

Here's some close-ups of the Kitty Litter Cake, Cheesey Goblin Head, Brain Jell-o, and Meathead.

Update Time

Okay, so sunday was my birthday (Feels like I've been 18 forever... Finally.), and my wonderful boyfriend made sure that I had a wonderful time. A couple of days before I ran out of fugly yarn for the huge bag I was trying to make to hold all of my yarn, so that project's on hold for now. So I finally started on the Sushi Roll Toilet Paper Cover. Michael really doesn't understand the need for a toilet paper cover, and I didn't either until I saw this one. This is deffinately not your run-of-the-mill Barbie doll in a frilly dress and hat. I'll post a picture of mine when I'm done, which shouldn't be long. The pattern doesn't take much yarn, and is really easy to follow. So even if I don't end up using it, there's no labor lost. Till later...

Play-doh is Fun!

My friends and I were playing Cranium, which turned out to be a really fun board game, and after we put it on pause I started playing with the clay that comes with it and I made a cute little snail and unicorn. Michael thought I should take pictures of them and put them on here since they were so cute. My ten dollar digital camera is a POS, so just try to imagine them as adorable little bright purple sculptures, okay?

What kind of yarn are you?

You are Dishcloth Cotton. You are a very hard worker, most at home when
you're at home. You are thrifty and seemingly
born to clean. You are considered to be a Plain
Jane, but you are too practical to notice.

Play Nice You Two...

So Cute!!!

Well, it took me about a day and a half working on and off to finish the cupcake. And of course, I couldn't just leave well enough alone. I had to make him one of my own, so I gave him a cute little face inspired by the plushies at My Paper Crane. His eyes and mouth are antique glass beads, and his sprinkle freckles are glass tubular seed beads. I looooove him so much, it almost seems mean to stick pins in him (except for the cute little bobble on his forehead. I thought I'd make him look a little frightened because, well, you'd be frightened too if a giant was going to stick big needles into you, right?

More Evil Bunnies and Not-So-Evil Cupcakes

My boyfriend and I stayed up last night talking about how cool the evil bunny came out, so we thought it would be fun to make some more monster-themed bunnies. So far I've got plans for a cathoulu (not sure I spelt that right), a zombie, a celestial, a demon, and a mind flayre bunny. Oh, and the regular cute one with a purple sweater for my best friend. And I might be making a non-bunny cathoulu for my boyfriend. But before I start on all that, I've begun work on a cupcake pincushion. You can find the pattern here. And there's an online article having to do with using an adjustable loop instead of a base chain when working in the round from the center that I found to be a great help.

Evil Bunny

And here's my version... Uh, I think I've got some 'splaining to do. I was just going to make him into a cute one, but while I was embroidering his wittle face, my friends and I noticed how cool he looked with just the strings instead of french knots. And since my friends are all D+D freaks, we noticed that it looks like an abbhoration with tentacles instead of eyes. I debated for a while wheather I should make it look normal or not, but we all decided to keep him abbhorent, since he seems to have developed a personality of his own. I'll be making another one, and maybe he won't be quite so evil... I hope...
My friend Bri says it's a "Croatian"...

Amigurumi Bunny

Okay, we've got some guests staying with us right now so it may take me a little longer to get it done, but I've been working on making a little amigurumi bunny from a pattern made up by Shannon Murphree. She says that she couldn't translate the pattern (which is most people's problem), but she had to make it anyhow. It's a good little pattern, and sooo cute. I've been working on it for less than a week and I'm nearly done. It's my first attempt at crocheting in the round, so I'm sure that if I make another one it'll come out better. But here's her version.

Hooray for knitpro!

Okay, so I'm still sitting here looking for crochet info and patterns on the net, and I come across this other girl's blog that turns me on to this program called knitpro. It takes any picture file you want and turns it into a grid pattern for use in knitting, crochet, and needlepoint. Can we say awesome?! I've recently become a big fan of the subversive needlepoint like these, so this new program just makes me hap-hap-happy. And can't you imagine that skull over there on a sweater? Very cool. I'm thinking about doing something with JTHM... Hehehe.

And so it begins...

Well, if I'm going to do this right, I suppose that I should invest in a digital camera to get some of my crafty junk on the net. Nothing better than being able to share stuff with complete strangers. But really, I hope I'll be able to help some people get ahold of those hard-to-find craft project instructions, like amigurumi (japanese crocheted stuffed animals). I've been doing some research, and I've found a few things. It looks like I'll have to learn to design my own, but unlike some people, I'll put my patterns on the web when I show off my work so people will be able to make them. Got to share the love, people.
